To Zimbabwe with Love

God Is Singing You a Love Song

"By day the LORD commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me,
a prayer to the God of my life."
Psalm 42:8

Psalm 42 is a yearning for God and a heartfelt request seeking divine help from a desperately needy supplicant in distress. To the psalmist's immense relief and gratitude, he realizes steadfast love surrounds him. This limitless source of strength then got him through the rough spots.

This same divine love also surrounds you, offering similar solace, strength, and sturdy resolve to live another day when the odds are stacked against you. Day and night, in times of war or uneasy peace, during peaceful prosperity or when enduring unspeakable cruelty, hatred and catastrophic events-God's steadfast love is with you continuously. This divine love is yours seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day.

Here is a reality check when you struggle in life. God is singing you a love song, showering you with divine love and kindness even when you feel overwhelmed with despair and fear. In a world where millions starve, waste away from dreaded diseases such as HIV/AIDS, and armies stand ready to launch war- this holy love permeates the very air you breathe. You can be assured that whatever your circumstances, the LORD God Almighty's steadfast love is stronger than the raw faces of evil in its many subtle and overt forms.

So be encouraged and give thanks for the steadfast love guiding every step of your life. When you awake from troubled slumber, listen to God's love song and return peacefully to your rest. St. Augustine, an early church father, was fond of saying that singing helps us pray twice. Sing your love back to God and let it become part of your prayer life. And consider reading additional verses written by the psalmist describing this amazing steadfast love (Psalms 17:7; 25:6, 7; 26:3; 36:7; 40:10; 63:3; 69:16; 77:8; 85:10; 89:2; 92:2; 100:5; 103:17; 107:8, 43; 118:1; 119:88; 136:1).

Prayer: Singing God, sing your sweet melodies of steadfast love to me unceasingly. The more difficult and dangerous my circumstances may be, bless my heart with your soothing music. Even when my voice falters, help me sing a love song back to you. Amen.
